Power cleans are my favourite lift (mainly because I don’t have to use my chicken legs to clean the weight) and are an excellent show of strength, speed and POWER! I love it!! The power clean has a few variations – The Power clean is performed by catching the bar no lower than a half squat, The Muscle clean is performed by catching the bar with virtually no bend in the knees and needs a tremendous amount of power for a successful lift, The High Hang Power clean is performed in the above video and needs more Strength, Speed and Power than both the Power Clean and Muscle Clean combined.
The above video is an excellent example of explosive hip power and its effect on weight lifting. The video shows a lifter doing 6 x Hang Power Cleans at 120kgs. Closely watch the lifters hips and note how aggressively he uses he’s hips to generate power to clean the barbell. It is an AWESOME example of hip power! “It’s all in the hips”
