Purpose:
object toward which one strives or for which something exists; an aim or a goal, A result or effect that is intended or desired; an intention, Determination; resolution.
Training without purpose is an error. Why go into the gym with no plan of action? Why go through life with no plan of action? Do you go on a holiday without knowing your destination or arrival time?
Training (of any kind) should be planned and have goals to reach. Lifting a barbell for the sake of lifting a barbell is stupid. Do you work your arse off all week for the sake of working? I hope the answer is no. You work because you have to feed your children, pay the rent/mortgage or you might be saving for an overseas trip.
Training is the same. You don't lift weights or run 5k day after day for nothing. It needs to be purpose driven. Even if it’s something as stupid as running that 5k faster than you did the last time or lifting a couple kilos heavier. Never ever be satisfied!
Take three days to come up with three life goals and three training goals. No matter how stupid you think they may be write them down and keep them somewhere safe. Once you have your goals come up with process goals to reach your larger more important goals.
Some of my goals:
Life Goal - Own and operate multiple gyms by the age of 26
Training Goal - Compete in 2010 Regional CrossFit Games
